Method 2: Unlock with iTunes

The only other option you have if you want to open your iPad without a passcode is restoring it. Keep in mind that this is going to erase all of your data, but it could be the only course of action you have available. That’s why it pays to have backups. Here’s how to unlock an iPad with iTunes.

  1. Connect the iPad to the computer. Choose iPad in the iTunes sidebar and open up the summary tab.
  2. Click on the “Check for Update” button. iTunes will then tell you if there is a new version of the iPad software available.
  3. Click the “Restore” button. Follow all of the onscreen instructions and complete the process. As you restore an iPad, it’s recommended that you choose to back up the iPad when you are prompted to do so. After the software on the iPad has been restored (and the lock screen opened) you can choose to let your iPad run as new, or restore all of your old music, pictures, videos, apps, and other data from the backup.

Please keep in mind that not even Apple employees will be able to unlock an iPad without restoring it, which is going to erase everything on it.

Method 3: Unlock with iCloud

iTunes isn’t the only method for restoring your iPad. You can also use iCloud to unlock your device. This feature is normally used for stolen devices, but it works great for personal users too. In order to do this, you must have enabled the “Find my iPad” feature on your tablet before you locked it. If you have a backup of your device on iCloud, you can use that to restore your iPad without losing your data.

  1. Open the Find my Page section of the Apple website. Or download and launch the Find my iPad app on to another Apple device.
  2. Sign into the service using your Apple ID.
  3. Choose the iPad from the list of devices .
