According to the announcement for the Tales of Transformation season, the event will run from September 2, 2025, to December 2, 2025. During this three-month season, several long-awaited Pokémon will finally make their debut, including:

• Mega Metagross
• Gigantamax Eevee
• Resolute Form Keldeo

To celebrate, Niantic has scheduled a Mega Metagross Raid Day on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. During this event, Metagross encountered in Mega Raids will come with a special bonus: knowing the Fast Attack Shadow Claw.

Is Mega Metagross Good in Pokémon GO?

In my opinion, yes.

Metagross is already a strong (almost perfect) Pokémon even before Mega Evolution. Once evolved, its boosted stats and enhanced moves make it a top-tier choice for raids, PvP battles, and general gym domination.

Although obtaining enough Mega Energy to evolve it won't be easy and requires some serious grinding, Mega Metagross is worth it.

You'll need 300 Mega Energy the first time, and then only 60 Mega Energy for each subsequent evolution.

• Raid Battles: Participate in Metagross raids during special events or when it appears as a Mega Raid boss.

Mega Metagross is a Steel/Psychic-type beast, packing sky-high Attack and sturdy Defense. It's a raid powerhouse and a nightmare matchup for most opponents.

As a Steel/Psychic-type Pokémon, Mega Metagross is vulnerable to Dark, Fire, Ghost, and Ground moves.

It's a disappointing move for many players that Niantic/Scopely chose Shadow Claw as the featured attack in Mega Metagross Raid Day instead of Meteor Mash or Metal Claw, which would have given Metagross a stronger Steel-type identity.
