Apple ID usually records your privacy details and payment information. It is used for Apple services such as iTunes Store, Apple Support, FaceTime, iCloud, App Store, iBooks Store, Mac App Store, etc. If you want to sign out of your Apple ID but worry about what happens if you do that, you should read the following article. We will explain what happens if you sign out of your Apple ID in detail.
What Happens If I Sign out of My Apple ID?
Generally, Signing out of Apple ID can only disable the synchronization to iCloud servers. It will not have any impact on your data stored in the iCloud server but on those stored on your device. Here is what happens if you sign out of your Apple ID:
- iCloud Service & data in iCloud are inaccessible,
- App Store is unavailable,
- iMessage and FaceTime are only available with the phone number,
- Find My Features are unavailable,
- data stored on your Apple device are still safe.
We will explain this from different aspects in detail.
1 iCloud Service & Data in iCloud Are Inaccessible
iCloud allows you access to your data, contacts or photos anywhere. If you sign out of your Apple ID, iCloud service will be blocked. Your new photos or other updates will not upload to your iCloud. It will not influence the data that already synced with iCloud. The data stored in iCloud will keep complete. iCloud will continue to synchronize with your other Apple devices associated with this Apple ID.
However, if the data for the third party apps such Whatsapp, Youtube, etc. were stored in iCloud, they will be removed from your device once you sign out of your Apple ID. So will be the iCloud Backup, iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive, iCloud Keychai, iCloud Mail, Messages in Cloud, etc. They will all be inaccessible on your iPhone/iPad/iPod. But when you sign into your Apple ID, the service and data can come back on your device.
When you sign out of your Apple ID, you can’t use Apple Pay, Apple Cash, and Apple Card on your iOS device either.
To include this part, read the following unavailable iCloud services after signing out of your Apple ID:
- Apple Pay
- Game Center
- Messages in iCloud
- Siri Shortcuts/Voice Memos
- Home app to control your HomeKit devices
- iCloud Backup/Drive/Keychain/Mail/Photos
- Shared Albums/Shared Notes/Shared Pages, Numbers, and Keynote documents
- Updates to your contacts, calendars, reminders, bookmarks, and Safari tabs
- App data for the third-party apps installed by using iCloud
- Auto Unlock with your Apple Watch
2 App Store Is Unavailable
The App Store is linked with your Apple ID. If you sign out of your Apple ID, the App Store service will sign out automatically. This means you can’t download or purchase an app from the App Store anymore. You can’t update the apps either as apps are locked to the Apple ID used to purchase/download them.
3 iMessage and FaceTime Are Available Only with the Phone Number
If the iMessage and FaceTime on your device are linked with the Apple ID, when you sign out of your Apple ID, they will sign out either. But as you can keep using them if your sign in with your phone number. If you’ve already signed in the iMessage and FaceTime using your phone number, signing out the Apple ID won’t have any influence on these two Apps.
4 Find My Features Are Unavailable
Find My Friends allows you to locate friends and family easily using your device. Find My iPhone/Mac allows remote location tracking of iOS devices, Mac computers, Apple Watch, and AirPods. Since iOS 13 they’ve been combined in the Find My app. All these Find My features are linked with the Apple ID, so if you sign out of your Apple ID, you can’t use these features on your device.
5 Data Stored on Your Apple Device Are Still Safe
Signing out of Apple ID will not delete the data originally stored on your iPhone. It only intends to clear the copies that came from the iCloud. But don't worry, iCloud will ask you if you need to delete the local copies. So it would be safe for you to remove an Apple ID. If you still worry about these things, you can make an iTunes backup just in case.
