“Help I have lost all my contacts after uploading to new iOS system”
I am the type of person who like to keep up to date with technologies racing pace. When the new iPhone comes out I want to have it and if there is a new iOS system I upgrade to it as soon as I can. However I have just upgraded and lost all my contacts . This is a serious predicament as a phone these days is no longer just for making and receiving calls it is an essential tool for communicating with people and if you lose your phone you feel like you have been transported to the stone age.
Luckily after frantically searching the internet it turns out I am not the only one who has had this problem and there are three ways to get you back on track.
Method 1: Restore contacts on iPhone from iCloud backup
Step 1: Restoring contacts on iPhone is relatively painless you just follow the steps below.
Step 2: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on iCloud.
Step 3: Turn On Contacts option in iCloud settings— if it's already on, turn it off and back on again to re-download the contacts.
Step 4: Choose Delete if you are asked how to deal with the current contacts.
Step 5: Then choose Merge option in the next interface.
Step 6: Check your contacts in the contact app.
These steps show that restoring contacts on iCloud is incredibly user friendly another advantage is you can use iCloud to keep all your contacts stored securely and it is compatible with your other devices such as iPad or iMac. However a bit of internet research has shown that you are not able to choose which contacts you want to keep or discard and have to merge the contacts with previous data. Additionally recently there has been privacy issues with the iCloud , where iCloud leaked private details of many celebrities therefore if you value your privacy this this could be a risk.
Method 2: Restore iPhone contacts using iTunes backup
Step 1: Launch iTunes and connect your iPhone/iPad/iPod to the computer.
Step 2: Right-click your iPhone, iPad, iPod under the Devices list and click "Restore Backup".
Step 3: Select the latest backup entry appearing under the most recent date and click "Restore".
The main difference between the iCloud and iTunes is that iTunes stores backups on a device such as a Mac or PC and is not on the cloud. Again the steps to restore contacts are painless and this is a good way for securing contacts if you lose your phone and need to update a new phone. This disadvantage is that for someone like me who likes to travel I don’t need to have to be anchored to my PC and like to travel light. For someone like me I need a third party system that is secure and caters to my mobile needs.
